To reduce your chances of problems with your sewer lines:

Remember that your wastewater pipes are not a garbage can (i.e., do not flush disposable diapers and shop rags down the toilet).

Refrain from putting potato peels or especially grease down the garbage disposal. Grease clogs pipes and not only causes sewer backups into your home, but possibly into your neighbors’ home, and can cause expensive damage to the sewer systems and our treatment plant.

Review your homeowner’s insurance policy to see if it covers sewer backups. In most cases, this is an additional coverage.

Be kind to your sewer system.
The consequences for abuse can be most unpleasant!
